Crafting Holiday Decorations with Galax Leaves
A Blue Ridge Christmas isn’t complete without a touch of local greenery. For generations, one plant has stood out—galax leaves. These glossy, evergreen leaves are as much a part of Appalachian culture as they are of the landscape, with their dark, sturdy leaves that last long past the winter frost. When winter arrives and the…

Revisiting the Chilling Ghost Stories of Haunted Galax
Many have shared this unsettling experience: alone, wandering through an unfamiliar hallway or stepping into an unlit room, a chill traces their spine—not from the cold, but something more elusive, an unease prickling at their senses. They glance toward the shadows, half-expecting to catch a glimpse of movement just beyond sight. The urge to turn…

Wow, what an amazing day we had in Galax yesterday! Our office is filled with gratitude and cannot begin to express how much we appreciate EVERYONE who helped with our Old Time Appalachian Christmas festival. A HUGE shout out to the city of Galax staff – Justin Ward and his team and Trevor Hutchins and the Public Works Department, did some major heavy lifting behind the scenes. We absolutely could not have done it without them. We are so fortunate to have wonderful volunteers from Galax Grows who helped with vendor check in, set up and chaos management😂. Our vendors were top notch and had some great products and we hope everyone enjoyed the heritage demonstrations Matthews Living History Farm Museum. The food vendors were Amazing, such yummy choices. We hope everyone got to visit with Santa and get their wish list to him. Big thanks to our musicians who performed in the cold🥶 with frozen fingers. We met folks who had traveled far and saw lots of local friends, and to all of you, we say thank you. Thank you for supporting our festival, our local merchants, our vendors and our love for this city. We hope you choose to visit us again. ❤️#mountainmadegalax … See MoreSee Less
