Students and musicians of traditional acoustic music instruments may apply until March 1 for individual scholarship of $500 and organizational grants of $500 - $1000. These are awarded by the Wayne Henderson Music Festival, Inc. Detailed information and applications forms are available at www.waynehenderson.org. The individual scholarships are open to musicians in grades 8 to 12 and high school graduates up to age 21. The applicant must be a resident of the Central Appalachian region, with preference given to residents of the City of Galax, Grayson, Carroll and Smyth Counties of Virginia and Alleghany and Ashe Counties of North Carolina. Winners may use the award to attend music camps or for private lessons on traditional acoustic instruments. The application must contain: a) a completed application form, b) two letters of reference, c) an audio or video cassette or CD demonstrating the applicant's musical ability, d) and a 100-150 word essay explaining why you would like the scholarship and how you would use it.
Non-profit groups, which are teaching traditional music to students, may also apply for money to pay instructors, student fees or general operating expenses. A letter of application should state current program objectives, target participants and projected use of the money as well as provide evidence of non-profit status. Past grants to organizations have ranged from $500 - $1,000.

Winners of scholarships and grants will be notified by March 15, 2007. They will also be announced at the 13th Annual Wayne C. Henderson Music Festival and Guitar Competition, which will be Saturday, June 16, 2007, at the Grayson Highlands State Park, Mouth of Wilson, VA.
