The Arts Council of the Twin Counties is holding its annual clothes line quilt show at Matthews Farm Museum again this year on Saturday, September 8th with a rain date on the 9th. The Farm Museum will open at 10:00am with a variety of activities, demonstrations, and vendors. The quilts will be on display from 2:00 - 4:30. Entrants may begin to hang their quilts at 1:00pm. Late entries will be accepted until 1:45pm the day of the event. There is no entry fee. Beautiful, quilted ribbons will be awarded the winner of each category.
Our special treat this year is 3 performances by Vicky Town throughout the afternoon. Vicky is a delightful storyteller who has spun some special yarns to tell us based on local stories attached to the quilts in past shows. She'll also introduce children of all ages to some old timey games that were played in here and in North Carolina.
Master Gardeners of the Blue Ridge will be talking about the many virtues of locally grown produce, giving tours of the garden, and unveiling copies of their new cookbook, Fresh from the Garden. The book contains 62 scrumptious recipes for fresh fruit and vegetable dishes from apple pudding to zucchini waffles. You may also sign up for the next Master Gardener training class to be held at Wytheville Community College beginning September 17th.
Our new pavilion allows us to provide you with a place to sit a spell and listen to live music, or watch Ann Boyer's cloggers. You may even feel the need to show us your own flat foot moves. The circa 1851 log cabin will be filled with a variety of fiber artists demonstrating their crafts and offering you an opportunity to sit and try your hand.
Local vendors, some familiar, some new, will line the fence leading to the quilt show this year, tempting you with their wares; hand spun yarns, jams & jellies, and hand wrought jewelry are a few of the new temptations. We'll be giving door prizes every hour so come early, bring the whole family, and stay late. Admission is free.
