Artists and crafts people are invited to apply for membership through our jury process. The basic requirements are that you must have a body or original work available for exhibit and you are willing and able to fulfill the gallery staffing requirements.
Submit an application to have your work juried. If you are accepted you will receive a contract and a setup or hanging date, as the limited space becomes available.
City Gallery was formed in 2005 when Becky Webb Guynn, Robert and Theresa Lazo and Penelope Moseley purchased the building and opened the doors on Monday, August 8, 2005. The concept of City Gallery had been a dream of Bob's for years. Over coffee one morning the quartet began talking about possible buildings for such an adventure. While strolling around Main Street, they noticed a small, single story building just made for a gallery,
long and narrow. Cell phones came out of pockets and the current owner was immediately contacted. It was a match made in heaven. A decision was made within days to open Galax's first fine art gallery.
Other than the landlords, members' work includes Chuck D'Arezzo, woodworking, Kathleen Hill, weaving, Paula R. Melton, watercolors, Kathye Mendes, acrylic and pastels, Brenda Moore, ceramics, Karin Saul, handcrafted jewelry, and Brad Smith, hand carved folk art and pencil drawings. Work by Jim McFadden, photographer, Bill Nuckolls, wood carver, Morris Schlesinger, turned wood, and Vanessa Wright stained glass is also exhibited in the
gallery.
The co-op has been very successful in attracting the finest of artisans to service a discriminating buying public. The group holds several art exhibitions throughout the year, spotlighting members as well as guest artist. The galas have become popular, well attended events.
